Carly Pope found out the day after her high school graduation that she was going to Romania to shoot a feature film. "Acting was always an innate ambition," said Pope, who was born August 28 and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, the middle of three children. "It was where I belonged."

Pope trained in dance until she entered Lord Byng Secondary School (the equivalent of American high school), when she began studying drama in an advanced program. An agent saw her in a school stage production, which led to Carly's screen debut in an independent children's film, "Cowboys and Aliens," on location in distant Eastern Europe. She returned and enrolled at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver for a semester, but demand for the gifted young actress was already heating up. 

Carly's fast-rising career took off when she won a starring role in the upcoming Showtime feature film, "A Cooler Climate," with Sally Field and Judy Davis directed by Susan Seidelman. She appeared in the upcoming Paramount release "Snow Day," a children's comedy with Pam Greer and Chevy Chase. Her television credits include leads in the ABC television movies "Our Guys," and "Trapped in a Purple Haze". "Popular" is her first series regular role. 

Pope compared her character, Sam, to "a builder, or a contractor. She has all the right tools, but doesn't know how to use them properly." Sam doesn't realize yet just how unique she already is. "She's trying too hard," continued Pope. "Her actions don't match up to her convictions, and that's what she still has to learn." 

Pope returns to Vancouver often to spend time with her brothers, with whom she is close. She enjoys long walks, writes poetry and reads constantly. She plans to learn how to play the guitar. Pope makes her new home in Los Angeles.
