Sandra Annette Bullock was born in a Virginia suburb of Washington, D.C. on 26 July 1964. Sandra is the older of two children born to John and Helga Bullock. John is a vocal coach and Helga is a German-born opera singer. Although Sandra's official residency was Arlington, Virginia, she lived a transatlantic life until the age of 12. Sandra got her first taste of the stage when she was 8 through her mother during the yearly opera season when Helga would be performing. Sandra played a gypsy child in the background and while in Salzbug, Austria, the audiences would toss her chocolates by way of applause.

Sandra joined the cheerleading squad while studying at Washington-Lee High School. She was an above-average student and her '82 senior class voted Sandra "Most Likely to Brighten Your Day."

She later enrolled as a drama student at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina and performed in the Chekhov drama Three Sisters. She later studied method acting under Sanford Meisner and fibbed her way into a bartender's job after leaving ECU in 1986.

In 1990, she starred in the short-lived NBC sitcom Working Girl and Love Potion No. 9. In 1993, she played supporting roles in movies like: The Vanishing as a kidnapped victim, Wrestling Ernest Hemmingway as a waitress, The Thing Called Love as a wannabe country star. In 1993, Demolition Man helped Sandra in the breakthrough role in the movie, Speed. Finally in 1994, Sandra got her first starring role in While You Were Sleeping, a leading role originally charted for Demi Moore.

In 1995, Sandra starred in another leading role of a computer troubleshooting analyst in the movie, The Net. In 1996, Two if by Sea is due out onto theatres nationwide and has two other movies in production, A Time to Kill, a novel by John Grisham (author of The Pelican Brief and The Firm) and Kate & Leopold.

In 1997, Sandra plays Annie Porter in Speed 2: Cruise Control. This time, the action takes her to the high seas and plays opposite, Dennis Leary. She learns to steer a huge cruise ship while Leary is set to kill her and her new boyfriend. In 1998, she will star in Hope Floats with Harry Connick, Jr. (from Independence Day), Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman & Stockard Channing and will play the voice of Miriam in the animation by Dreamworks Pictures, Prince of Egypt.
