JANET JACKSON
BIOGRAPHY
|
Janet Demita Jackson was
born on May 16, 1966 in Gary, Indiana. Janet was the youngest child
in the family. When she was just four years old, the family moved to
the Los Angeles area; at three years of age she later made her
performing debut in Las Vagas with her broters. At nine she joined
them on a television special. Janet was cast in the t.v. show Good
Times from 1977-1979 and in Diff'rent Strokes from 1981-1982.
In 1982, she signed to A&M Records in 1982 and recorded her
first album "Janet" followed by Dream Street in 1984. Both
albums didn't sell too well. Jackson's mega fame started in 1986
with "Control", wich reached number 1 and produced so many
as five US Top 10 singles. The album went quadruple platinum for
sales of over four million copies in the USA. Her follow up album
"Rhythem Nation 1814" in 1989 also went quadruple
platinum. By the end of the year she had eight billboard awards.
Design of a Decade was another huge seller. This album was a
combination of all her songs over the past ten years. The Velvet
Rope album charts number 1 in America. The single from that album
"Together Again" topped the hot 100 in January, and her
collaboration with blackstreet, "I Get So Lonely", was a
number 3 hit in May.
